Life is what makes you
This reflection caused students who expected to do well in the program to commit themselves more, and those who expected to do poorly to commit themselves less—again pointing to the importance of optimistic expectations to success. But the mental contrasting was also key: Positive expectations did not increase commitment in participants who were not assigned to compare their present situation with their future desires. In other words, it helps to stress yourself out a little bit.
In studies, WOOP-type interventions have helped people break a bad snacking habit , get more exercise , and improve academic performance. Thus, research suggests that thinking about the future can motivate us to take the steps necessary to reach our goals—but only if we take obstacles into account.
Besides helping us make decisions and reach our goals, there is evidence that prospection may improve psychological health more generally. It might even help people who are struggling with depression and those recovering from trauma. Indeed, some researchers pose a link between poor prospection and certain psychological disorders such as depression.
In particular, they note that people with depression imagine possible futures that are more negative than people without depression. Moreover, people with depression tend to overestimate risk and to have more pessimistic beliefs about the future. Explore how to get better at achieving your goals. Discover the four stages of change. Find out how to set up the right environment for changing your habits. How to choose goals that make you come alive. That might be why research suggests that targeting negative beliefs about the future can be helpful.
Some techniques used in cognitive behavioral therapy, for example, involve correcting how people think about the future, and some studies have shown that cognitive behavioral therapy can improve prospection. Instead, they are asked to spend more time thinking about what they want from the future, while developing skills to reach those future goals. A nonrandomized pilot study found that patients with major depressive disorder who completed this intervention showed significant improvements in depression, anxiety, and quality of life compared to patients who completed standard cognitive behavioral therapy.
For people recovering from trauma, a study suggests that writing optimistically about the future—an intervention called prospective writing—might encourage post-traumatic growth that is, positive psychological growth following a traumatic life event.
In this study, adults who had recently experienced trauma were randomly assigned to a prospective writing intervention group, a factual writing control group, or a no-writing control. Somehow, everything that made up her world has been taken away - and now she must fight like she has never had to, to recover her rightful lot. A gripping story of the pains of growing up, the strength afforded by faith and the indestructibility of the spirit, here is an inspiring story for modern readers.

It is not some YA romance. This is real keeper! I just do not have words to describe how I'm feeling.. There is so much you learn from this book.
You look at the world with new eyes. It is really well written. I did not want it to end. As one of the reviewers mentioned it ended very abruptly. There were many things i wanted to know..
Bipolar disorder! It was really very well explained. Please do read it.. I'm currently very emotional to writ Oh. I'm currently very emotional to write any review. I would just say.. You need to read it, to understand what i am telling. Thanks Preeti, it was very nice story and superbly written.. I'll look forward to your other works..
Okay, about the book now This story is about Ankita who is suffering from acute case of Bipolar disorder. This is her journey through this disorder and how she grew as a person in the end.
I am sorry, but I did not feel bad for Ankita till the end. It was good lesson she learned. She was arrogant, selfish, mean and always got what she wanted. Okay, I get that she was from very conservative family but she way too forward. I did not see her parents being conservative in that matter. But, she should have been more considerate and little humble. As Abhi said.. She was blinded and she should have tackled it better. She was a 20 years old when she graduated. Maturity does come with that..
I was really shocked the way she left all her friends behind when she moved to Bombay. Then, again in Bombay she was too arrogant in many ways I seriously did not get how her friends tolerated her?
Someone should have slapped some sense in her in Cochin itself. Abhi was way too blinded for her and I felt that he deserved better. Suicide for this arrogant-bitch was really pointless. She did not really learn much.
So, due to her past actions.. I did not really sympathize for her in the end. Agreed that learning about Bipolar disorder was truly-heartbreaking for me. I mean these patients really suffer a lot and one really needs to have strong will to survive this and also hope and faith.
I loved the treatment she got from all the doctors and how she learned and in the end grew as a person. I hope every bipolar patient gets this treatment and he is able to live his life to the fullest. I would recommend this to everyone. But, beware.. This actually made me look back at my life and all the things I have done..
Being a sensitive person.. Okay, it is worth the read. Please, if you have this book. Do read it. You may or may not like it. But, you surely would be more knowledgeable after you read this book. I hope my review helped you. Life is.. View all 21 comments. Apr 27, Tanu rated it it was amazing Shelves: romance , self-help , 5-stars , reviewed , fiction , psychology. This is one of those books which I love dearly but I don't have the courage to even flip its pages again. This book means so much to me.
I went into this book blindly without knowing anything about it. I should have known what it was about. I have never been this triggered while reading a book because I was going through such a difficult time back then. At times this book triggered me so much that I felt it would be better for me to stop reading it now.
But I finished anyway. Mental illness is This is one of those books which I love dearly but I don't have the courage to even flip its pages again. Mental illness is still a big taboo in Indian society. This book is so realistically representing mental health that it's just so damn relatable and I cannot help feeling helpless. The character going through major clinical depression is so real and everything about the representation is so accurate that it made me wonder how the author knows how to write this story so well.
The story towards the beginning is a young adult component with young love and all that. The book is about an ambitious, hardworking, and brilliantly talented and creative girl Ankita Sharma who, with his constant effort has made it into the top MBA college.
Shifting from a small state in Kerala to a big metropolitan city in Mumbai has not affected her in any way, in fact, she was so engrossed in her course that she made it to be at the top position in her academics. But fate has suddenly changed her path. Six months later she has been admitted to a medical hospital NMHI in Bangalore which was something not expected for such a girl either by his family or his friends.
This book will teach both the young and the old about such issues. A must-read. However, before taking up this book, be aware of the possibility of being triggered by the events depicted in the novel.

And Preeti is of a different mettle too. There is an arresting grip that the tale of Ankita held over me as I turned page after page. The bipolarity disorder has been eloquently portrayed. The highs of the euphoria to the abyss of crestfall.
I won't say it's a tormenting tale of a person battling with her own imaginations. But rather a well articulate account of the mindset of the downside of creativity ma I can pretty much assure you that this is not just another book that it shares the shelf with. But rather a well articulate account of the mindset of the downside of creativity marrying cyclic emotions.
A 5 star read and a rioting performance by a debut author! Apr 17, Pooja rated it it was amazing Shelves: pages. A story of hope, despair and friendship. It's never too late to find yourself. For so many reasons on so many levels that I'm afraid i won't be able to share. Though i would try my best so that the way this book became a turning point in my life, my interpretation of it may become someone else's. I read this book after my boards while i was preparing for entrance exams for various courses. Exhausted and lost were the two feelings were there as my constant companion.
I was naive and oblivious to a lot of things, I lived a bubble which tbh wasn't This book is special for me. I was naive and oblivious to a lot of things, I lived a bubble which tbh wasn't hard at all because of the sheltered life that I had led. The first half of the book is a some-what conventional love story. The real deal for me comes after it, the part that had me turning pages faster than I could have expected from myself at that point of time.
The protagonist has bipolar. But just remember, some come, some go. This life is yours. Take the power to choose what you want to do and do it well.
Take the power to love what you want in life and love it honestly. Take the power to walk in the forest and be a part of nature. Take the power to control your own life. No one else can do it for you.
Take the power to make your life happy. Your life is your own. You mold it. You make it. All anyone can do is to point out ways and means which have been helpful to others. Perhaps they will serve as suggestions to stimulate your own thinking until you know what it is that will fulfill you, will help you to find out what you want to do with your life.
My theory on life is that life is beautiful. You have a day, and a night, and a month, and a year. We people change — we can be miserable or we can be happy. If life is what you make it, the building blocks are your desire and your passion.
I just gave away my copy after reading. Story-line is good and starts off nicely but after that its all in vain. Not so happy with this purchase, will definitely stay away from this author in future. Mohini Singh Certified Buyer. My top books of the month. The Immortals of Meluha 2. The Krishna Key 3. Till The Last Breath. Journey Of Two Hearts 6. I will write reviews for these on my blog. She is beautiful, intelligent, smart, famous, confident The girl did'nt seem to have any problems initially which is quite improbable in real life. Then all in a sudden she starts feeling low, scared, sucidal for no particular reason. Well, this 'disease' or 'defect' is termed as bipolar disorder. The symptoms are described well. The girl gets admitted in a Manjunath k Certified Buyer.
I read it and I am beginner and I really enjoyed the style of writing of preeti shenoy. I think I am in luv wid its story. Its quite complicated yet interesting , it just tells that love must be confessed. I think I had added a pearl to my library. Very precisely written n executed as far as i have read. Somewhere story becomes flat but it somehow withhold the reader. I think it's gonna be exhilarating the most used n loved word in the book so far.
Although the ending looked fictious so as to end on a positive note. Talking about the delivery then it was faster I received this the very next day in the afternoon.
