Why is madoka so good
In the final timeline, Madoka is able to grow and make the most selfless choice possible and end suffering by taking into account everything Homura had done for her. Likewise, it's Madoka's unconditional kindness that enables Homura to make her wish and grow into a strong protector, as she felt completely alone and helpless before she came into her life.
Kyubey reveals to Homura at one point that all she's done by repeating the same time over so many times is make Madoka's eventual fate worse , and although she couldn't have known this at the start, there's something a little unsettling about Homura's methods. By being granted the ability to loop time infinitely so long as she doesn't give in to despair, Homura is essentially trapping Madoka in a horrible cycle of fate that she has no say in.
Just because Madoka asked her to stop Kyubey early on doesn't mean that doing so is healthy or plausible, and being as kind-hearted as Madoka is, she'd want Homura to stop upon realizing this. Madoka and Homura can understand each other in a way that the other magical girls are incapable of- we aren't simply talking about their shared experiences as magical girls.
Because Madoka has the potential to see all timelines, or at least remember her bond with Homura and some of their previous memories without making her final sacrificial wish, she understands the deep bond they have shared and how much Homura truly cares for her.
This goes as far as their bond often seeming alien to other members because they can't comprehend that many timelines of being devoted to someone. At several points throughout the show, Homura makes it a point to reiterate the fact that she believes Madoka needs to give up on Sayaka. This series is similar to Neon Genesis Evangelion, an anime that deconstructs the mecha genre of giant fighting robots.
Other concerns may include Madoka's mother drinking "Being an adult can really such sometimes, that's why were allowed to drink" , some risque language in the English dub "damn", "what the hell", "dumbass , brief nudity during transformation scenes but nothing can actually be seen , and the fact that this is one of the most popular anime series, it is naturally a cash cow franchise, hence the compilation movies of the series.
The movies have a rating that roughly equates to a PG, so I would recommend thinking twice before letting any younger children watch the series. The story of Madoka Magica is not the typical story found in most other magical girl animes about the main character's adventures as a magical girl, but rather the main character watching other magical girls around her fighting witches and discovering what it truly means to be a magical girl.
As a result, the characters learn that living a normal life is preferable. The characters are interesting and the audience might be able to relate with them. While not all of them may be likeable, they do all have their postive attributes. Their development makes you attached to them. Overall, this is a phenomenal series with original thoughts and interesting twists.
I definitely recommend it for anyone over 13, and parental supervision for slightly younger kids. And have a box of tissues ready because you will probably find yourself wanting to cry while watching. Adult Written by Firefly December 23, Excellent show This show is really excellent- a piece of art, really. It's a fantastic show though, especially for being so short, they manage to pack a lot in there in a comprehensive way.
I'd like to add to the general write-up for this that there is plenty more to talk about here with kids besides things like violence and symbolism.
Adult Written by 3Swag5You June 7, Not Your Typical Magical Girl Anime Madoka Magica is amazing, with artwork that for the most part is breathtaking, creepy when needed, cute when not. Sorry if there are any spoilers, I'll try not to write any, but I may slip, so be careful.
The series starts of very lighthearted, your typical magical girl genre. If you start to get bored, please, at least watch until episode 3. That is when Madoka and Sayaka are forced to face the reality of what it means to be a magical girl. The series only gets darker with the appearance of Kyoko Sakura, a girl who seems to only care about herself. She, for some reason, is always licking a fight. And that's as far as I will go, because if I go any farther, there are gonna be spoilers.
Most people watch the first episode, and assume that it's your typical magical girl anime. I wouldn't have watched it if my friend hadn't forced me. When I recommended this to my friends, they got bored during episode 1.
But after episode 3, they were in love with this anime. Overall, this anime is amazing, and deserves all of the praise it gets. It's definitely one of the best magical girl style amines, and my personal favorite anime of all time.
He loves this show and that's the good part. Adult Written by scotierainwater March 24, It's not for kids though. Too violent, too dark, a character gets her head bitten off. Parent Written by Kristina June 3, Not Your Typical Magical Girl Anime When you start this anime you think your going to get sailor moon and thats what the first episode looks like and the episode after that but then you get attack on titan except more adorable.
Teen, 13 years old Written by Darky'sReviews June 19, As much as it might seem like another of those cheesy fantasy girl shows that you see all of the time on channels like 4Kids. Deep down to the core, it really is a psychological thriller and a darn good one at that. With the constant twists and turns presented in beautiful and extremely inventive animation, it is definitely worth renting out 12 episodes.
However, this isn't one I would recommend to your fairy loving 5 year old as it is quite violent and it can get pretty dark. This anime is also one of the rare cases in which the language is a lot milder in the original Japanese sub than what it is in the English version just something that I would watch out for since most people not familiar with anime usually go for the dub.
This is a certainly a show that is worth checking out no matter how much you like magical girls or not, but it's one that's definitely meant to be left for teens, although it's worth trying out with older preteens as well, if they're mature enough.
Teen, 15 years old Written by leahcar May 19, Masterpiece anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica is a very deceiving anime; it looks like a cute magical girl anime for little kids. Trust me: only the artstyle is cute, and it's NOT for little kids.
It is actually a very dark, complex show with complicated timelines and tells a lot of story despite being only 12 episodes long. There is a lot of violence and the witches may scare viewers, and there are deaths and despair LOTS of despair. It is an emotional rollercoaster which gets you thinking deeply even when the episode has finished. I loved PMMM; it's very different from many other animes of the same genre e.
Sailor Moon and Pretty Cure and I recommend it if you like emotional programmes full of action, tragedy and philosophical mindbenders. There are many positive, deep messages from the show: be careful what you wish for; be grateful with what you have, and suffering comes with life so don't avoid it but fight it.
And also, don't trust Kyubey! Teen, 13 years old Written by Near01 May 18, Best Magical Girl Anime Ever. This anime starts off as a cutesy, sweet girly anime, but by episode 3 it cruelly turns the sweetness off. After the episode 3, it becomes more horror based. However, I watched this when I was 11, and I was totally fine, even though it had very brief moments of gore and death. Kid, 11 years old July 23, This anime really good! I haven't watched ALL of it, but its interesting and cool.
Are you kidding me?! There's no underwear showing! Sailor moon has a short skirt too!! The series is great, anyways, but it takes a while for madoka to actually become a magical girl. It can make it a bit boring if you're waiting for that.
Teen, 15 years old Written by SweetDisposition July 14, Darker than your average magical girl storyline. Puella Magi Madoka Magica is an anime centered around five girls; Madoka, Sayaka, Mami, Homura, and Kyouko; who all are or become magical girls at points in the series.
They became magical girls after forming a contract with an alien animal called Kyuubey. Kyuubey offered them a trade of sorts- the girls could wish for anything they wanted as long as they became magical girls and defeated enemies known as witches. The catch? Witches can kill magical girls. The story centers around Madoka, who is percieved by Kyuubey as having the capability to become the most powerful magical girl ever. However, Kyuubey has no idea why that's the case with Madoka.
The series has many positive messages- standing up for what you believe in, realizing that for every good thing there also comes bad, and that doing what's right for someone else might not be the best thing for you. There is some violence with the girl's weapons- Homura fights with guns and bombs, Madoka with a bow, Sayaka with swords and knives, Mami with guns, and Kyouko with a spear.
However, I don't think the violence was graphic enough to scare off a mature young teen. The part that might be scarring are the graphic deaths in the series, and the psychological effects these have on the girls. The series has a darker undertone, and it makes you think about many of the darker possibilities in life. Overall, the storyline is fantastic- as are the characters, animation, and music.
Definitely worth a watch for anime fans! Should I watch Puella Magi? Is Puella Madoka worth watching? Is Madoka Magica the best anime? Is Madoka Magica an original anime? Is Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica finished?
